ARMY MEAT CONTRACTS.
NEW ZEALAND FROZEN MUTTON. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, September 12. Tho War Office is inviting tenders for moat to bo delivered in Juno. Tho (minimum weight of quarters of beef for tho Army has been reduced, thus enabling contractors to supply Australian beef, which has hitherto been precluded from competition. (R«c. September 14, 5.5 p.m.) London, September 13. Referring to tho discarding of frozen mutton in army meat contracts, tho Hon. T. Mackenzie (High Commissioner for Now Zealand) asked tho War Office authorities if they would bo satisfied if genuine Now Zealand mutton, whero so specified, wore' supplied, adding: "If so, I am surprised that tho War Office' should refuse, considering that New Zealand mutton and lamb is coming increasingly into public favour." Hp also asks whether tho meat had beon properly treated for cooking purposes.
