LAND SETTLEMENT
'ANOTHER GOVERNMENT PURCHASE. The Primo Minister informed a Dominion reporter yesterday that the Government had purchased a block of land known as the Lynton Downs Estate, in Marlborough province, for subdivision and olose settlement. Tho block lies south of Kaikoura, on the line of the South Island Main Trunk railway. It consists of 7000 acres of freehold, and 9000 acres of Crown leasehold, which will be resumed on the purchase of the freehold. It has been used for sheep grazing up till tho present, but the Prime Minister stated that tho valuors had informed him that quite a large proportion of it was suitable for agricultural purposes.
