TOURISTS WIN BY THREE POINTS. (By -Telegraph.—Press Association.) chrlstohuroh, September 13. The Wellington-Canterbury interprovincial fixture resulted in a win for tho visitors by six to three. The teams were: —Canterbury—Fullback, A. Httnry; three-quarters,. G.. Guthrie, H. Watson, W. B. Fuller ; fiveeighths, Taylor, E. E. Crawshaw; halfback, R. J. Burns (captain): forwards, C. Hegarty, C. Murray, Q. Ormond, A. Fanning, L. A. Dougall, W. Maxwell, A. Kennedy, and H. R. Simpson. Wellington—Full-batik, G. Parker; three-quarters, D. Boyd, E. Ryan, J. Ryan; five-eighths, H. M'Leod, J. A. Kinvig; half, J. Morris;, forwards, S. , Shearer (wing), W. Sullivan, C. Hills, H. Paton, C. M'Kay, G. Miller, and W. Ryan. OUTLINE OF THE PLAY. When play settled down after an exchange of kicks, fast following up by J. Ryan had Guthrie in trouble, the ball bouncing badly for the latter, but Crawshaw stopped the rush. A freekick relieved Canterbury, and a little later on a judicious kick by Burns gained further ground, but Hills just managed to kick into touch. With play in Wellington half, Miller broke away from a line-out, Henry being pushed into touch near his own twenty-five. After a line-out, Burns and-Fuller put in a pretty piece of combined work down the touoh-lino, and almost immediately after Hegarty and Fuller broko away from a' liue-out with a bit of concerted play, which was stopped by Hegarty lotting the ball go into touch. At this stago Canterbury were holding their opponents, who were compelled to do somo solid defensive work. J. Ryan got his side out of an awkward placo. J. Parker next put in a useful kick, which carried play to tho Canterbury twentyfivo. Miller secured possession, and was tackled right on tho Canterbury lino. A Strong attack was at once developed on tho outer wing, M'Leod being prominent. Burns was chiefly responsible for clearing, and Fuller put • in an useful effort, which had Welling- . ton again defending. A mark stopped i tho rush, but the Canterbury backs [ quickly got to work in a passing rush, which was v spoilfc by Guthrie declining [ a pass. The latter's failure to take . the ball from a high kick had his side . in troublo a moment later, Morris being . within an aco of scoring. _ Fullerbrought off a lino save, and with play . in the Wellington half, the Rod and Blacks rushed away with an attack, • which ended in Guthrio being pushed r out near the corner, tho ball eventually , going into touch-in-goal. lington's twenty-five. The footwork of tho Wellington forwards soon regained the lost ground, but they wero unabjo to hold it when Canterbury got possession. The work of tlio Canterbury rearguard was brighter than that of their opponents, hut it was lacking in finish. After an attack by Canterbury, tho Wellington forwards drove the opposition back, but a passing rush took pla.y to the Wellington twenty-five, Guthrie spoiling tho effort by dropping tho ball. Tho spell ended with Canterbury attacking. THE SECOND HALF. In the second hnlf Puller retired with an injured knee, and E. Fraser took his place. Good kicking by Watson at once had play in the Wellington twontvfive, where Burns took a clever mara. His kick was marked in turn by J. Ryan, who took the ball well in the face of a forward rush. Play hovered in midfield until Guthrie kicked hard down the. field to Parker, who got out of trouble rather luckily. Simpson headed a rush, which threatened danger, but. once again E. Ryan saved his Bide. . With play, in the centre, the Canterbury backs got possession, but wero bustled by their opponents. Taylor's pass to Fraser was cut off by J. Ryan, who racod down the touch-line, and, beating Henry, wound up a good run bv scoring near tho corner. Paten's kick went jußt outside. Wellington, 3;• Canterbury, 0. The kickout was followod by a rush of Canterbury forwards, which was checked by E. Ryan. They quickly mad© another effort, but over-ran the ball. A passing rush looked promising, but (.luthris, after making a dash, was well tackled.. The Wellington forwards, whoso footwork was vigorous, took play to the Reds' twenty-five, where Canterbury were penalised, and Paton kicked a fine goal. Wellington, 6; Canterbury, 0. Canterbury attempted to joeu up '.be game when play was resumed, tut (heir passing was too slow, ind Kinvig hioke through, supported by E. Ryan. However, tho tackling proved equal to the occasion. Play settled in the Canterbury twenty-five, and Praser, making a nice opening, passed to Crawshaw, who scored near the corner. He made a good, but unsuccessful attempt at goal.
