THE LAST LIFT.
BY THE DEVON SAVORS. Salvage operations on tlio Devon were practically completed yesterday, whon tlio .Fery Company's steamer Awaroa brought twp motor cars and a quantity of piping and harvester machinery back to tho wharf. To securo the remainder of tho cargo, tho services of a diver will bo required. It is, however, generally thought that tho cargo which is left in the holds is beyond salving. Inquiry was mado yesterday as to the probability of dismantling tho Devon, and it was ascertained, that tho matter was being considered, and an announcement in this direction is expected today. 'Hie Awaroa brought two of the Devon's lifeboats back with her last evening. Tho diver who was engaged by Mr. A. Walker (Lloyd's representative) has finished investigation of tho vessel's hull, and a report will bo forwarded to London. No date has yot been fixed for the rehearing of tho marine inquiry into tho wreck.
