MAKARA COUNCIL.
The Makara Qpunty Council met yesterday morning, those present being: Councillors F. T. Moore (chairman), J. H. Haggerty, A. J. Taylor, T. H. Eastwood, H. J. Monaghan, and George Monk. Mr. G. "W. Mexted, of Porirua, was appointed to act aa rangor for the county. The question of replacing the present wooden breakwind at tho top of Makara Hill, by a structure, was deferred for further consideration.. A lengthy report dealing with the sanitary conditions of various pig farms in the Paparangi district was submitted by Mr. B. S. Seed, sanitary inspector, for the Health Department. Various cases of alleged uncleanliness, due to lack of metl""l on the part or owners, were reported, Mid, in adopting the report, tho council decided to take proceedings inhere recommended by tho inspector. The Nghauranga Gorge Road is at present undergoing extensive repairs, . and tho question of its upkeep was dealt with yesterday. Being users of the road,' Messrs. Mace and Nicholson, contractors, were asked to contribute towards the cost of upkeep. The firm's offer to contribute £40 worth of metal annually was accepted by_ the council. The chairman was authorised to interview tho City Council with a view to obtaining a contribution for the same purpose, as the Municipal Abbatoir carts used the read daily. It was resolved to pufchaso 205 birch posts and tho neccsßary wire, for the purpose of repairing tho fencing on tho Gorge Eoad.
