posed improvements, which provided for three playing grounds. He suggested that a sports meeting be held on Labour Day with the object of raising funds. The Mayor (Mr. W. M'Lcmnan), who presided, said that the Borough Council would no doubt subsidise the work. The sum of £12 12s. was forthcoming in the room, and those present formed themselves into a committee for the purpose of arranging for a sports gathering on Labour Day. A man named Leo Simmons, who. appeared on remand at tho Magistrate s Court on a charge of drunkenness, and on another of stealing a coat, blanket, and rug from Dr. Whitton's premises, was convicted and fined ss. on the first chargo; on the socond charge he was sentenced to fourteen days' imprisonment. .
