SUBURBS RIFLE CLUB.

THE SUBURBS RIFLE CLUB At the annual meeting of members of the Suburbs Defence llifle Club last night, Mr. E. Gallichan presided, and there was a good attendance of members. The annual report and - tho balancesheet were adopted. In the report, members wore congratulated 011 tho sound financial position of the club, and on their efficiency with the rifle. Tho club was represented at the Wanganui meeting, tho Wellington Rifle Association meeting, the Domiuion Rifle Association meeting, md the Hawke's Bay meeting. The total winnings by members of tho club at oil these meetings amounted to £210, not including cups. It was at tlio Wellington Rifle Association's meeting that the club did best, Rifleman J. L, Tutner winning tho championship, Rifleman J. Smart tho association's cup, and the dub tho teams' service aggregate and tho Islington Cup, besides other place prizes won by members. Ji} club shoting, Rifleman H. Hunt won the club's championship 1913, whilo tlio Newton Cup was won by Deputy-presi-. dent J. G. Newton. Tho "Daily Mail" shoot, held annually at Trentham on January 22, proved a success. Tho "Daily Mail" championship, 1913, was won by Rifleman T. Goodall, with Rifleman J. L. Turner second, and Rifleman H. Hunt third. During the past season the attendance at shooting on both Saturdays and "Wednesdays has fallen off, and it is suggested that steps should be taken to remedy this by cross-' ing out tho seven hundred yards shoot, dividing the club into classes, and keeping all matches at Miramar, by providing a ono thousand yards range. To do this money will have to bo raised by a loan or by some other form of entertainment. For trophies presented the club thanks .the following The President (Mr. E. Gallichan), the Deputy-Presidontß (Messrs. J. G. Newton and C. H. Graham), Mrs. W. M. Jackson, Messrs. George and George, H. T. Pitcher, J. L. Turner, A. R. Brown, A. H. Symoud. T. Coltman, Witcombe and Pym, D. H. Hunter, T. Kingston, Strange and Co., G. Winder, J. Smart, J I'. Litlto, P. M'Farland, W. H. Cook, W. M. Jackson, W. P. Hornifi, Hempton and Bellamore, Stewart Dawson and Co., the Empire Packing Co., and tlio secretary. The balance-sheet showed that there was a credit balance of £11 2s. lOd. at the bank. The balance of assets over liabilities amounted to £139 3s. 6d. In moving tho adoption of tho annual report, tho president referred to the fact that on account of tho introduction of tho figure target tho shooting during the coming year might tax members moro severely than it had dono in tlio past. As retiring president, ho exhorted them to support the Rifle Club s executive with all the power at their disposal, for had it not been for the executive the bull's-eye would probably liavo gone for good last year. For the work they had done members of the executive deserved tho club's hest thanks, and to Mr. H. Marshall, chairman of the executive, special praiso,,Wiis Election of officers resulted is follows: —President, Mr. C. R. Graham ; deputy-presidents, Messrs. J. Smart and J. G. Newton; lion, secretary, Mr. W G. Fellingham: hon. treasurer, Mr. H. A. Snelling; handicapper, Mr. H. Hunt; hon. auditors, Messrs. \\. K Hornig and J. 11. Ross; assistant noil, secretaries, Messrs. A. R. Brown and A Turner; committee of management, Messrs. G. Oliver. F. Staccy, H. Hunt. A. Tumor, F. Price, and tho officers or j the club ex-officio.
