Petone—Advanced Intermediate Division (honours): Elsie Pomfrey, 82. Intermediate Division (honours): Elsie Maynard, 84; Dulcie Matthews (pass), 60. Advanced Junior Division (honours): Gyneth Harper, 84; Sylvia Davis, 80. ' Junior Division (honours) —V. Hutchinson,'9o; Winifred Tancred, 66. Preparatory Division (pass)— Cornelius Ryan, 100; Agnes 88; Mary Upton, 88. Hutt—Junior Division (honours) : Agatha Bunny, 97; Pauline Patton, 86; Jack Roche, 84. Preparatory: Myra Cudby, 85 (honours); May M'Grane, 79 (pass). At a meeting o£ the Hutt River : Board, held on Wednesday evening, the overseer's report stated that 66 piles and booms for groynes had been delivered, leaving a balance of .97 to com■pleto tho supply. Six and a half chains of'.'tho protection of the eastern river bank "had been completed, costing £30 18s. The boom above Hutt Bridge (No. 21) was completed. Nine and a half chains of protection works, for the Hay'.ward Land Co., had been completed at a cost of £60 13s. (estiraato £65). Repairs to old works and 30 chains" of willow work had been completed for the Hayward Co., at a cost of £10. The report was adopted. The chairman (Mr. _H. Baldwin) and Mr. Knight were appointed the board's representatives on the deputation regarding tho denudation, of the lVater-shed at Maymorn.
A marriage was celebrated at the Marto'n Presbyterian Church yesterday in which the contracting parties were: Mr. D. H. Guthrie, third son of Mr. D. H. Guthrie, Chief Government Whip, and Miss Ireno Meads, of Silverhope. The officiating clergyman was the Rev. R. Pottor. A numerous company of relations ahd;friends attended the ceremony, arid subsequently, at a wedding breakfast in Gould's Rooms, Marton., The bride was attended by her sister as bridegroom, and Mr. T. Moore, cousin of- the bridegroom, acted as best man. Mr. D. H. Guthrie, jun., is engaged in farming at Ruahine, and the newlvmarriod couple will tako up their residenco thero on returning from tho honeymoon. A disgraceful scene is said to have occurred .in t'ho committee-room in the Timaru Town Hall on Tuesday morning while tho Mayor and members of tho Works Committee of the Borough Council were taking a list of the unemployed in Timam with a viow to obtaining employment for those in distress. Two of the men (says tho "Timaru Herald") had previously had a grievance, and they started to fight in tho committee-room. They wero immediately separated. Tho Mayor ordered- the combatants'to leavo the room. RECORD HILL CLIMB.
The record hill olimb for' commercial motor vehicles in New Zealand stands to fcho credit of the Argyll motor-lorry, which recently, in tlio presenco of a Government official and carrying a fiill load of two tons, with, four passengers aboard, mounted Reuben Avenue, Brooklyn, up si ruling grade of 1 in 3}. Several other makes of motor-lorry attempted the liill, but all failed.
