His Excellency tlio Governor and Lady Liverpool are to bo present this ovening at tlio Sunday School Union prize distribution, which is to bo held in Wesley Hall. Tlio Hon. Mr. Hagelthorn, Ministof for Public Works for Victoria, and Mrs. Hagelthorn, were the guests at a luncheon given by tlio Mayor and Mrs. Lulco yesterday. Bishop Averill has intimated that ha will bo unable to go to Auckland beforo the New Year. Dr. Ardagh, who recontly resigned the position of senior resident medical officer at 'tlio Auckland Hospital, has gono south to Tcmuka, wliero it is hia intention to take up general practice. Tho Rev. R. J. Porter haß been nominated by tho Oamaru Presbytery as Moderator of tho Presbyterian General Assembly.

Mr. James M'Ennis, who was . magistrate at Naseby for about 10 years, died in Dunedin on Tuesday, at the ago of 74. Beforo ho was appointed to Naseby ho was well known as the clerk of the court at Kumara. Ho was at one tinio in tho police force, and was for many years a closo friend of tho lato Mr. Seddon.

Tho death occurred on Tuesday night of Mr. Robert Turner Melhuish, a very old resident of. Nelson, at Glenduan, Wakapuaka, at'the ago of 67 years.

One of Feilding's old identities in tho person of Mr. Isaac Brent died on Wednesday evening.. Deceased settled in Feilding 25 yoars ago, and started in business as a cabinot-maker, which he carried on till the time of his death. Mr. N. W. Simpson, teller in. the New Plymouth branch of the Bank of Now Soutli Wales, has received notice of transfer to Svdncy, and leaves in about a fortnight's time.

Sir. J. E. Tomlinson, who has been meat inspector at the Gisborne Sheepfarmers' Frozen Meat Works for the past six years, has been transferred to Eltham as stock inspector. Before hie departure the staff made presentations to Mr. and' Mrs. Tomlinson.

Two years after his departure from New Zealand Dr. Clune waa appointed Bishop of Perth when Western Australia was _ included in t-110 archdiocese of Adelaide (South Australia).
