SIMPLE BUT FATAL. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Inuercargill, September 10. A singular fatality occurred in the Nightcaps mine yesterday. Matthew M'Kenzio, a iniddle : agcd man, tripped, and in falling his chin struck a coal-b&x, resulting in a fractured jaw and injuries to the skull. Deceased leaves a widow and a family of five. LITTLE GIRL'S BODY FOUND. Whangarei, September 10. - The little, child, a daughter of Mr. Fyffe, missing since Monday morning from her home at Parahaki, was found yesterday drowned io a dam near by. At the inquest a verdict of accidental death was returned.

A plea for young tennis players who are also members of the Territorial force ivas made by several speakers at last evening's annual meeting of the Brougham Hill Lawn Tennis Club. It was proposed that the club's opening day be Saturday, September 27, but it was pointed out that this day had already been fixed for a whole day parado for Territorials. This would preclude many of the club's young players from being present at the opening. It was pointed out that the Defence authorities had done their utmost to arrange their whole day parades so as not to- interfere with sports bodies' fixtures, and that tho sports bodies should reciprocate as far as possible. The meeting decided to alter the dato of opening for a week later, Octobor 4.

The Marlborough Hospital Hoard has approved of the same linn's plans for tho new hospital to bo erected at Blonheim. A thoroughly modem hospital building has been designed, and the architects have guaranteed that it will not cost more than £14,8(10. Tenders aro to be called for the work forthwith.
