FLUTTER IN METHODIST CIRCLES,
SOCIAL AMUSEMENTS BANNED By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright Melbourne, September 10. A flutter has been caused amongst tho Methodists at Northcote, a Melbourne suburb, at tho stand taken by certain leaders against members attending the Mayoral banquet and othor social gatherings. A series of resolutions adopted by tho leaders at a meeting was read from tho pulpit. Olio was: —"That in view of the groat moral and spiritual peril attached to dancing and the theatre and to going to other questionable amusements, all members and adherents of tho Church aro strongly urged to entirely abstain from such amusements."
Ono member, described as ono of the ablest preachers in the district, also with tho reputation at the Town Hall 6i being one of tho most elegant waltzeis on the floor, has resigned membership of tho church. It is anticipated that young members, except non-danc-ers, will also resign.
