Tho Dannevirko Racing Club's steeplechase meeting passed off successfully, tho attendaneo being largo and the fields big.. The weather was changeable, showers falling at intervals, while heavy rain fell after tho last race. Tho totalisator investments amounted to £11,590, as against £8728 for tho corresponding meeting last year. The big steeplechase was a fine race, Master Webb winning by a neck, and Windage, Gondolier, Donzel, and Rangitane finishing within a head of each other. In the Hack and Hunters' Steeplechase Levent fell at tho sod waE and broko his neck in two places, and j). Gordon, his rider, had his collar-bone broken. When the horses were finishing a spectator named Ken. Harris, a son of Mr. J. A. Harris, stock agents, Hastings, put his head out betweon tho wires of the fence and one of the competitors, collided with him, and Harris was badly injured about the head.
