YACHTING.

PORT NICHOLSON CLUB'S REPORT. Tho annual report of tho Port s Nicholson Yacht Club states that tho principal event of tho year was the Anniversary Day regatta at Petone. This was a joint meeting managed by a committee representing all the clubs ill Wellington Harbour, and thanks chiefly to the secretary (Mr. 1 J. Donald)/ of tho Helotaunga Club, it was a success. Tho experience gajned will prove of bcnolit when arranging tho next regatta. For years, the regatta has been a great handicap to the club, alid members should use every effort toward establishing a combined regatta on a permanent footing. The club's races were well contested, and entries wero up to tho average of recent years.' To raco regularly in Wellington Harbour requires considerable enthusiasm, but several of-tho club's boats havo started in every race, even if they did not always finish. The championship of tho firstclass was annexed by Windward, with Jlahind runner-up. Lizzio was again champion 'of the second-class, and lta•weno again runner-up. By resolution of the annual meeting, the 3lark Foy system of starting handicaps was in vogue during the year, and in several instances very close finishes rewarded the handicapper, but, in other instances, tho vagaries of the .weather and tho boats, plus tho humours of the skippers, proved too much for the handicapper. The starting, judging, and time-keeping was conscientiously carried out. The Social Committeo reports a successful wintor. In regard to finance, it was mentioned that all uufinancial members aro now off the roll. The thanks of the club are accorded to Messrs. J. A. Wilkinson (Auckland), Jagger and Harvoy (Auckland), H. E. White,' Py. C. Renner, Walker and Hall, D. Keir, J. B. Speed, D. Howard, Captain Post, and the Wellington Harbour Boird. Tho club also acknowledges tlio services of 3lessrs. J. Moffatt' (handicapper) and L. Sleightholme (judge).
