The police were strongly roinforcod for to-night's free speech demonstration. The Labour leadors widely quota Sir Edward Carson to show how free speech is allowed by the Home authorities. GENERAL STRIKE SUGGESTED. (Reo. September 8. 0.20 a.m.) Johannesburg, September 7. Several thousand persons assombled at the labour mooting in Market Square and unanimously denounced the suppression of free speech. Thev recommended a general striko in the event of any conviction in connection with tho strike prosecutions. 'Hie speakers described Cabinet as ."a dirty, stinking, gigantic' scab agency," and declared that Lord Gladstone, tho troops, and tho police ought to bo thoroughly ashamed of thcmsolves. \
