An authoritative niessage from tho north states that tlio New Zealand Coal-mine Owners' Association lias refused to recogniso or negotiate with the United Federation .of Labour in connection with tho Blackball strike, and ponding West Coast agreements both of which matters have been handed over to the Federation for its control b.V the workers* concerned. It iB understood that tho companies are quito prepared to meet the men themselves in any matters that may bo in dispute. When agreements are como to tho question of whether they should be registered under tho Arbitration Act will come up for consideration.
