Mr. J. D. Avery, for'some years sooretary of tlio New Zealand llugby Union, has intimated that ho intends to resign that position owing to pressure of business in other directions.
Tho llev. A. L. Macdonald Aspland, who has for eight years been pastor of tho Courtenay. Place Congregational Church., haS in a letter to the secretary intimated his intention of resigning that position in order to accept a call to tho Emmanuel Congregational Church, I'ahnerston North. At a meeting of members of tho church held on Wednesday evening, tho following resolution was unanimously carried"That tho resignation of tho Rev. A. L. Macdonald Aspland bo accepted with very deep regret, and that tho members of the church desire to place on record their high appreciation of his long, earnest, and self-sacrificing services rendered to the Courtenay Place Church during tho whole term of his pastorate." ; Tho Rev. W. J, Eddy.. of Geelong, tho secretary of tho Council of Churches for Victoria, lias accepted appointment as general secretary for Australia of the Mission to Lepers. This mission is international and interdenominational, and works in conjunction with over thirty of tho leading missionary societies of tho»world. The Nelson Hospital Board yesterday appointed' Miss Julia S. Murray, of Wellington, and formerly of London, to the position of matron of the hospital, Tlioro were eleven applicants from various parts of the Dominion.—-Press As-, sociation. Mr. De Latour, of Gisborne, was a passenger by tho Monowai, which left Wellington last evening for northern ports. Mr. Douglas Gardner, of Paiaka, Levin, and Mr, William Hugh Dick, of Wellington, have been appointed as officers for tho purposes of Part 2 of tho Fisheries Act. The name of the Rev. Norman Hydo has been withdrawn from tho list of officiating ministers under the Marriago Act for tho year 1913, and tho name of the Rev. Francis T. Harris lias been added. Mr. Mathers William Letts has been appointed Registrar of Mirriagcs and of Birtlis and Deaths for the district of Hokianga, and Constance Margaret Eastliopo has been appointed in a similar capacity at Masterton. Colonial Auxiliary Forces long-servica medals have been awarded to Lieut,Colonel W. J. Davis, Queen Alexandra's 2nd (Wellington West Coast) Mounted Rifles, and Captain Gustav Thoodor Kretschmar (unattached list). Messrs. C. T. Haynes, W. S. Home, T. D. Leedham, Harokl Paul, and Edward Slterson have been appointed inspectors under tho Public Health Act, and Mr. Harry Coltman, M.R.,' San. Inst., has been appointed inspector under tlie Public Health Aot, and an officer under the Sale of Food and Drugs Act. Mr. Thomas Robert Saywell Jim been appointed by tho Public Service Commissioner as Deputy-Official Assignee at Wanganui. Mr. George Morrison, who died at Mornington this week, was ono of Otago's early settlers, having arrived in tho Cheviot in 1862. Tho question of extending to Kai- ' warra any motor bus service to tho city's outlying districts that; may bo established by tho corporation was brought under tho notice of tho City Council by tho Onslow Borough authorities. Tlio Tramways Committee of tho City Council woro advised that this matter would bo more satisfactorily dealt with by oxtending tlio city tramway System to Kniwarra, and they recommended that power be sought to cuablo this to be done when tho time is opportune.—This was agreed to at last night's meetinc of tho City Council. There will be no more striking chapter in tho modern history of the British Navy (writes the June "Navy") than that which shall embody the golden record of tho part New Zealand has piayed in arousing and inspiring Imperial sentiment on behalf of sea supremacy. In this magnificent missionary work. in which New Zealand has led the Umpire, it will stir the pi'ido of nil Navy Leaguers to rcflect that tho moving spirit in this great movement has been the conjoint New Zealand Navy League through all the phases of its organisation.
