W.C.T.U. CONVENTION.
-9 Tlio W.C.T.U. District Convention was hold on Tuesday at tlio Church of Christ, Petone, and was attended during tho day by about fifty members and frionds. " Mrs. Boxall (president) was in tho chair. Mrs. Webb (secretary) read tho annual report, which mentioned work done by the following unions: Wellington South and Central: Mastcrtori, Ngaio, Lower Ilutt, and Petono. Mrs. Peryman read a papei by Mrs. Beiideloy on "Work for the Enfranchised," and at 12.30 luncheon was provided by the Petono members. Tlio afternoon session was opened at S p.m. by Mrs. Evans, after which the question-box created a good deal of discussion. Tho following resolution, moved by Mrs. Peryman, and seconded by Mrs. M'Pherson, was carried: That this District Convention of Wellington ask the Premier to bring in legislation this session to reduce tlio three-fifths' handicap." Papers were read by Mrs, M'Donald 011 "Prevention Better than Cure," by Sister Miriam, and Mrs. Houlder, on "Physical Aspects of Temperance" (by Dr. .S. Reid, of Glasgow). A hearty vote of thanks to the Petone ladies for their hospitality «'ns proposed bv Mrs. Whitcinau and seconded by Mrs. Glen. 111 tlrc evening a public meeting was held, and was addressed .by Mrs. Peryman. Dr. Hughes, Mr. Townscnd, and Mr. R. A. 'Wright. Solos wore contributed by Mrs. Ashby aijd Mrs. Franklyn, and a children's song, and recitations by Mr. Dclaliunty and Mrs. Usman.
