INTEREST AWAKENING «

Tlio Competitions of 1913 to be bold under tho auspices of tlio lVeiv Zealand Competitions Society, in Moveniber are beginning to arouse interest in young aspirants for vocal and. elocution- j ary fame. At a meeting hold last evening, at which Mr. W. H. Atack presided, Mr. James Dykes (secretary) presented a satisfactory progress report detailing the comprehensive manner m which tlio Competitions wero being ad-, vertisod throughout the Dominion. Mr. F. Oakes revived his arguments in favour of tlio choral contests being conducted in such a manner as to prevent tho judges knowing what choir was _ singing, ill tlio same way as was done at brass band contests. The committee« decided that an effort would bo made to carry out tho idea, providing no insuperable obstacles, wore placed m the A lettor was received from the secretary of a famous "choir in Ipsiviwl (Queensland), asking for full particulars respecting the choral contests m Wellington and elsewhere, and muting at tlio possibility of tho choir (which lias been very successful at Australian competitions) coming over to JNow Zealand next year. The secretary was instructed to forward the desired mloirnation, together with a warm mutation for the choir to visit the Dominion,
