MINING SCHOOLS.

CONFERENCE OF DELEGATES. Delegates representing the different mining schools in the Dominion met in conference yesterday, and will continue their deliberations to-day. The delegates and the mining schools they represent are as follow : —Mr. H. Poland, M.P., and Mr. Gibson.(Karangahake); Mr. Baker (Thames); Mr. T. W. Rhodes, M.P. (Coromandel); Mr. Lovcll (Westport); Mr. Fletcher (Huntlv); Mr. A. H. V. Morgan (Waihi); Professor Park '(Otago University); Mr. M'Paddon (llecfton). Others who at-

tended tho conference were: Mr. H. J. H. Blow (Under-Secretary for Public Works) and the following members of the official Board of Examiners: Messrs. P. G. Morgan, Director of Geological Surveys (chairman); H. li. Radcliffc (secretary); F. Reed (Inspector of Mines)'; and R-. Duncan, Chief Inspector of Machinery. The conference was opened by the Hon. W. Fraser (Minister for Mines), who expressed the liopo that it would result in making tho mining schools even more useful than in the past. Various points connected with, tlio work of the mining schools will be discussed by the conference, and it will consider also the question of examinations for mining certificates and various cognate matters. The conference,will probably conclude to-day.
