—4 RESPECTING HOTEL LICENSES. (By Telegraph.—Frees Association.) Cisborne, September 1. Tho case of J. R. Quinn versus R. S. Florancc, S.M. —an application for a writ of mandamus to compel the magistrate to hear plaintiff's application for a publican's license —was montioned at tlio Supremo Court beforo Mr* Justice Cooper to-day. This was a case which was brought to compel. Mr. Florance, S.M.. to hear an application for a publican s license which had already been refused by Mr. Barton, S.M., of Gisborno, on tho ground that tho police report , was unfavourable. His Honour stated that the case was one of such importance that he would like tho assistance of counsel, and ho held that Mr. Florance should have tho assistance of counsel also at tho Crown's expense. The ruling in this case, his Honour stated, would be of importance to tlio whole of tho Dominion. Tlio case will probably bo taken to-morrow.
