An encampment of gipsies, near Montpelibr, who had caused disturbances in- their neighbourhood;, opened firo on a body of gendarmes which had been ordered: to expel them. One of the gendarmes ■' was' killed', • and four woro wounded. During a wild flight across; tho country the gipsies abandoned twenty carts. One hundred and fifteen gipsies have been arrested.
