Wellington Collego soundly defeated Christ's College, Christdlmrch, on the Wellington Collego ground yesterday afternoon. . On Thursday Wellington just beat Wangauui, and on Saturday tho Canterbury boys ran over tho northernei'3, so Wellington were hardly expected to win against the South Islanders. However, beforo tho first spell was half through the -hard-fighting Wellingtonians had a lead of nino points. This they increased to a dozen beforo halftime. Tho first scoro came through passing by tho Wellington backs, commencing with Brierley (half) and concluding witih Robieson (left-wing). Next Hindmardli kicked a penalty goal. Wellington, 6; Christ's Collego, 0. The Wellington forwards wero burying their opponents, and in a mix on the visitors' line Luke scored. The finalscore of tho spell was l obtained by Robieson at the end of a passing rush. Wellington, 12;. Christ's Collego; 0. ' In this spell Grigg (five-eighth), of the visiting team, was carried off the field with a sprained ankle. Wellington 'tad had tho advantage of a strong wind in tho first spell, and it was thought by some that they would need their 12 points' lead to leave the field victorious. '■ However, the Black forwards rose to the occasion, and the Canterbury lads rarely got into an attacking position. Wellington increased their score, Childs obtaining a try which Hindmarsh converted. The match
ended: Wellington College, 17: Christ's Colloge, 0. Mr. W. J. Meredith was referee. ' ' The victory of Wellington was due chiefly to tlheir forwards,; who, as in tho match against Wanganui, played excellently. Christ's College did not play nearly as well as thoy did on Saturday, when they met and soundly defeated Wanganui. Their forwards were beaten all round, and their backs played very raggedly. Tho Wellington (half-back, Brierley, again distinguished himself, but Hindmarsh constituted himself custodian of the leather anJ starved his backs. Mr. W. J. Meredith, of Wellington, has been appointed referee for the Auckland-Taranaki Rugby match, which takes place this-week.
