ASSOCIATION.

■' ' . s (Bt Centbe-Half.) 01 - lc CORINTHIANS AND THE FUTURE. ■ U After dragging its inglcfious length j? over a spaco of several weeks, the caso " of tho Corinthian Club appear to bo P in a fair way to be definitely closed very shortly. Mr. T. Crouch, president of tho club, who acted as linesman on the day sj of the match out of which arose all .the Ji troublo, escaped with a reprimand, his 't previous suspension of two-years having been rescinded. Whether the New d Zealand Football Association will on- R dorse this remains to bo seen. Having 1' regard to the evidence, Mr. Crouch's t fate is still rather an open question, 0 should tho council, after'perusing tho * facts, decide to refer the whole matter ' back to the local committee. However g that. may> be, the Corinthian Club, as " a club, is at present "nQn est" its committee, officials,'and secretary have been ruled out of tho association, and . all that remains for the players who s may desire to resume their sport at the 1 expiration of their suspensions, is to seo d what other and more law-abiding clubs v think about their eligibility for mem- o bership. At any rate, law and order o have been vindicated, discipline has I boon sturdily enforced, and tho local o game has been purged of an undesir- s able element. It has been demonstrated r that the football authorities will .not stand for unsportsmanlike exhibitions, t and of those persons who .cannot "play i tho game" it has been plainly hinted ( that -their room is preferable to their I company. However much legal critics [ may .cavil it the procedure adopted by \ the' W.F.A. in connection with this c unpleasant business, nono can deny that in the end justice was meted out, and c that tho offenders received their i deserts. .. ' t istray Notes. i The round of senior matches of tho ( Otago Football Association's programme; : last Saturday did not disturb the reja- i jtivc positions of Kaitangata and Northern A,- one of whom must provide tho cup winner. Taking the positions of Kaitangata (23 points), Northern A (21 points), and Morningtou B (19 points), it will bo seen (says "Left Wing") that should Mornington B defeat Kaitangata on Saturday, and should Northern A < beat High School Old Boys—and neither < match is by any means a foregone con- J elusion —Kaitangata and Northern A will bo level for. tho premiership. In I such, caso a play-off will take place. The Nowcastlo and District Associa- . tion (New South Wales) will organise a team to visit Brisbane next month, i theps to contest a series of games against' opponents selected _ by tho Queensland Football Association. Tho N.S.W.F.A. will not consent to any j match of an inter-State standard being ■scheduled, but as there are Associations at Brisbane, Ipswich, and Toowoomba, . our Novocastrian exponents , should get somo interesting inter-Association coiir tests, which are permitted by tho Com- . monwealtli Football Association. 11l connection with the recent suspension of an Otago player, for. .the use of bad language, the chairman of tbo District Football Association Commit- \ tee, at tho weekly meeting, expressed the opinion that somo. uniformity of action by referees with regard to 1 players using bad language was. desirable. Twice lately tho Association..had been, required to ferret out cases of bad language, owing to the fact that referees had not taken sufficiently drastic action, j lu cases where bad language was used, it was the Association's dosiro that referees should immediately order tho offenders off the field. Both Brooklyn United's first and second division, teams have done fairly well for the first year teams, finishing ninth and seventh respectively. It is practic- , ally tlie baby teafri 'of tho W.F.A., but requires no spoon-feeding. It- owes its formation principally to two persons. ' Mr. J. T. Blair (late .of Glasgow) and ' Mr. T. Davey (late of Ramblers F.C.). At i its first practice there mustered seven men, and now, in August, 1913, the club numbers 38 players and almost 300 members. Tho club also had rcpre- , sentative honours conferred upon it in the person of "Joe" Belhamie.' who successfully defended (or helped to) tho Brown Shield against Otago and Taranaki. This club is well served by its onergetic committee —Messrs. P. C. Green, A. Turner. T. Turner, .J. Blair,. T. Wallace, H. Potts, J. Williamson, A._ Holland—the secret of its success being "unison for the progress of their club and 'soccer' football." In a few days' time (September 3) the club will -hold its annual "smoker."; It is also' intended to enlarge tho club's activities under a new flag—Brooklyn United Past-imo and Social Club—with tho intention of having' free with its players and other footballers (Rugby , or "soccer"), swimmers, and kindred , sports. They hope to open this club about the end of September or the be- . ginning of October. By way of encouraging the bovs' clubs , tho N.Z.F.A. is considering the tiues- . tion of providing a New Zealand Shield for competition under similar conditions to those laid down for the Brown Shield tournament—an excellent idea.
