THE QUEENSLAND BUDGET.
SURPLUS OF 1 £6116. By Teleiraph—Press Association-Copyrisrht : Brisbane, August 27. The Budget Statement shows that the revenue for tho year totalled £6,378,213, exceeding tho estimate by £109,911. The expenditure totalled £6,372,097, exceeding the estimate by £109,464. -The surplus was £6116, which would havo been larger had two amounts not been transferred to the revenue account. The estimated population of Queensland is 036,-' 425, an increase of 14,296 compared with 1912. Owing to tlie hardness of tho money market, loan funds have been expended at a considerably lesser rate than in tho previous year. The railway showed a net return on capital of £3 Bs. 6d. per cent. Land Settlement had continued to expand. The area selected during the year amounted to 6.964,383 acres. SURPLUS FOR TASMANIA. Hobart, .August 27. The Budget shows that the revenue for the year was;£l, 111,291,-' and the expenditure £1,077,857, leaving a surplus of £33,435, reducing the previous defioit to £44,762, which has been converted into an actual surplus of £32,238 by special revenue from the Commonwealth.
