GOVERNMENT ESCAPES BY SIS VOTES. By Telegraph—Proas Association—Copyright Sydney, August 27.. The censure debate resulted in favour of the Government, by 40 votes to 34. NEW TAXES PROPOSED. (Ree. August 28, 0.45 a.m.) Sydney, August 27. The State Assembly lias, passed four moivtlis' supply, totalling £8,000,000. Mr. J. H. Cann (State Treasurer) indicated that the Government's taxation proposals to meet tho deficit would involve a revision of the income tax and stamp duties; it was also proposed to tax company .dividends Bd. in the £ where the incomo floes not exceed £5000, and lOd. in the £ on larger incomes. The proposed stamp duties would includo 6d. per £25 on promissory notes; a penny stamp on cheques; 3d. and 6d. duties on inter-State steamer tickets; Is. and 2s. 6d. on oversea tickets; 2d. for receipts of £5 and upwards ; and 2s. per £100 on tlio capital of limited liability companies. Probate dutios would be amended so that estates up to the value of £1000 Would be free; up to £5000 the duty would bo 2 per cent., rising witih £ach £1000 to 4i par cent, at £10,000, 7 per cent, at £25,000, and an additional one-third per cent, for every : £5000 in tho larger estates, with a maximum of 15 per cent.; an altera-, tion of tho present income tax for tho exemption of £300 incomes was also probable.
