PUBLIC SERVICE.
CLASSIFICATION & APPEALS. The.Board of Appeal set up to adjudicate on the- cases of officials who aro dissatisfied with -their rating under the new classification scheme has been 1 summoned to meet in Wellington on Friday next. The '.board consists of Mr. Peter Barr, of Dunedin, and Mr. J. H. Richardson, of the Government Insurances Department, w!ho lliave been appointed by the Government; Mr. A. Marryatt (president), of the Wellington office of the Government Life Insurance Department; and Mr. Mouat, of the Lands and Survey Office, Dunedin, elected by officers of the Public Service (excluding the Post and Telegraph Department); and Messrs. Scully ,(New Plymouth), and Mill (Auckland), elected by the Post aid Telegraph Department.
A great deal of business will come forward at tho meeting, wliich will probably be a very protracted one. Many appeals have been, lodged already, but tho Commissioners allow dissatisfied servants thirty days from August 30 last in Which to frame their complaints. The full' timo will bo allowed, although a start will be made with those appeals ,which have already been received. Tho Commissioners have drawn the attention of Civil Servants to the clause of the Act which provides that if, in tho opinion of the board, any appeal is frivolous or vexatious the appellant may he ordered to pay the cost of tho appeal.
