| (By Tcleuraph—Prcet Aseooialion.) 4 — INQUIRY INTO A FIRE. Hastings, August 25. An inquiry into the firo which destroyed a four-roomed cotlago in Treacle Lane, Hastings, on August 11, was concluded to-day. Mr. S. E. M'Carthy, S.M., ooronor, found that the furniture and effects in the house belonged mostly to Patrick jM'Namara, who had insured thorn in his own name for a sum much beyond their value, and that Mrs. Wells, a sub-lessoo of tho promises, had at tho request of M.'Namara insured tho same .furniture and effects in her name for £30. The coroner recommended that tho actions of M'Namara with referenco to tho dwelling and contents should bo further inquired into. A SUNNYSIDE INQUIRY. Chrlstehurch, August 25. A reporter made inquiries from Dr. W. 13. Gow, medical superintendent of tho Sunnyside Mental Hospital to-day, regarding the holding of an investigation into tho alleged maltreatment of tho lato Mr. Tribe. Dr. Gow said that, up to the present ho had no official information as to tho date on which the inquiry would bo held. All ho knew ho had gleaned from tho Howspapers. Tlio inquiry will bo conducted by Mr. V. G. l)a.v, S.M., at Tiniaru. Already considerable interest is being taken in tlio matter. . i A VESSEL SEIZED. Whangarol, August 25. Tho ketch Spitfire belonging to the old meat freezing company at Whangarci Heads has been seized under a writ of tho Admiralty and now lies alongside tlio Railway Jotty. Tho writ has been issued for tlio recovery of unpaid wharfage dues. Tlio vessel has the warrant of embargo nailed to her main mast. BURCLAR'S HAUL. Naplor, August 25. Tho rosidenco of H. Smith was burglariously entered on Saturday night. Tho intruder was disturbed whilst operating, and loft several bundles of goods ready'for removal. Ho, however, got away with jewellery of itlio value of £25! FIRE AT DUNEDIN. □uncdln, August 25. A fire broko out in tlio promises of Messrs. B. Isaacs and Co., manufacturers' agents, this_ evening, and tlio stock, comprising principally boots, curtains, and housejiold furnishings, was damaged to tho extent of about £300 or £400. Tho stock is believed to bo insured for about £3000, mostly in tho Atlas office, with a small portion in Lloyd's.
