HORSE KILLED AND RIDER H.URT. (By Teloffraph.—Preea Association.) Christchurch, August 23. Training operations at Jliccarton -this morning were somewhat marred by two regrettable accidents. While schooling over steeplechase country the aged gelding Fair Deal fell heavily, and broke his neck. His rider, S. Muriitt, sustained a" broken collar-bone, as tho result, of tho fall. Fair Deal was a useful sort of gelding, by To Kooti, and ■was in training for tho Ataberlcy Steeplechase Club's meeting, which will be held on Thursday next-. ' -
Tho other accident happened to an apprentice in It. Longley's stable. He was riding a gelding- by Boniform — Culverin, when his mount .bolted olf the loourse. Going past Cutts's the gelding' came down, and gavo the rider a bad shaking, but it is not anticipated that tho injuries aro serious.
