The latest among these is an invention by u New South Wales banker, Mr. 11. Preston Stark, who has brought; out an appliance which lie claims will ensure tho safety of slioep during railway transit. It coa sists of an iron frame, fitted insido an ordinary stock truck, and containing 9incli mesh of stout hemp to support tho weight of the sheep. When tho sheep aro driven into tho truck they staJid on tho hempen meshes of the frame, which is then raised by means of a lever worked from the outside, with tho result that the legs of tho sheep hang through tlio meshes, tlio animal being thus comparatively supported by tho frame during the whole of the journey, instead of being knocked about, trampled upon, and, perhaps, kille<l or maimed as is often tho case under existing conditions.
