Tlie Chief Justice took into account tho youth of accused, ami the fact that nothing was known against him. and sentenced him to two years with hard labour in Invercargill gaol, and after that to three years' reformative, treatment, after which ho would bo under the control of tho Prisons Board for n tamo. His Honour eaid: "You ought to seo you have brought yourself very nearly to tho risk of vour own lifo. Tlio in a v vol is thftt Iroland was not killed. If ho had Ven, y<m would necessarily have lost your lifo also. TTis Honour added that tncro appeared to bo something behind 1 the shooting which did not como out in endonie.
