TERRIBLE DISASTER AVERTED. By Telegraph—Picas Association—Oopyrirht New York,- August 21. Sticks of dynamite wcro found outside the offices of tho Mayor (Mr. Gaynor) at tho City nail. This is in some quarters taken as an indication of a plot against Mr. Gaynor's life. The scout tho theory. New York, August 22. A quantity of dynamite has been .discovered in tho Mayor's office—sufficient to wreck the City Hall. Mr. Gaynor remained 6eat®d calmly cut his desk while tho police drew a cordon around tho explosive. Tho faulty arrangements of a fuse alono prevented a terrible disaster. ' Tho police believe tho plot to have been directed against Mr. Gaynor, but another theory is that caroless workmen, engaged on somo adjacent excavation, left tho dynamite lying about.
