THE NEWTOWN CLUB'S REP OUT,

The report of tho Newtown Lawn Tennis Club, to bo presented at the annual meeting to bo held on August 23, states that a steady improvement ha 9 taken placo in tho financial position. Tho total number of members during tli/o year was 7G, an increase of 1 on tho previous year. There aro at present vacancies for several men. Tho receipts, including tho balance brought forward, amounted to £174, ss. 2d., and tho expenditure to .£172 lis. 5d., leaving a balanco of £ 1 13s. 9d. Tho fourth instalment of the loan (.£SO) has been paid, leaving . <£100 still owing, and two instalments havo been paid off the drainage loan. Owing to non-attendance of many of tho club members, tho annual "at home," although very enoyabie, was not a financial success. Tho club is again under a debt of obligation, to tlio committee of tho Cinderella dances, that connnitteo having contributed tho sum of .£23 19s. 3d., as a result of the dances during 1912. Tlio club competition resulted' as follow:—Championship singles, ladies, Mis 3 Robinson; men, Mr. E. T. Eodward. Handicap singles, ladies, Miss Clark; men, Mr. B. H. Low. Handicap doubles, ladies, Mrs. Bell and Miss Powell; men, Messrs. l'ratt and Fathers. Combined handicap doubles, Miss Redward and Mr. F. Collins. Tho club teams were moro successful in tho interclub competitions than they wero in previous years. Threo ladies' and three men's teams wero entered, the junior'ladies' grado being won by representatives of tlio chib. Tho committee desires to congratulate Miss Vcitch on her success at Wanganui in tho combined handicap doubles, and Mr. Crewes on liis success in winning tho handicap singl/s at Marton. Owing to removal from Wellington, tho club litis lost several mfimbors, including Jlr. B. H. Low, who had Ijeen a member for years. The club (concludes tho-report) is in-' debted to Messrs. Barber, Muter, Redward, Gill, and Grady for donations, and to Mrs. E. Y. Redward, Misses Powell and Redward, and Messrs. Rowley, Prince, Godber, and Black for donating their bond interest.
