STREET WIDENING.
ANOTHER STEP IN WILLIS STREET. Tho City Council decided last night: "That an agreement should bo entered into with Mr. W. Smart for the resumption of 10 feet depth of his Willis Street frontage for an area extending from the extreme boundary point of his section, to tho wall of Messrs. Hobertsnft's building, thence by a line 13 feet southwards, (lionet) by lino eastwards to the new frontage lines of WiJlis Street, llr. Smart to pay for Oft. Tin. of such 18 feet, at tho rate of .CM per foot, total ,£320 Ids. Bd. Tho corporation is to pay the sum of .£!!.',o to -Mr. Smart lo cover the cost of (lie removal of a portion of the building and the re-erection of <111110, and for disturbance of liusiiuv.*," The Council derided, also: "That tho council should aiitlioi'i<e I lie necessary steps to be taken to acquire under tho Public Work* Acl'tho necessary land required to straighten tho .-milli side of Manners Street, between the Koval Oak llotel and' Tar.inyki Street."
