FIGHTING AT NANKING. By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright Pckintj, August 20. Tho revolt of the Southern Chinese Provinces against Mia Government of Yuan-Shih-ICui, President of the Republic, has concentrated its strength nit Nanking. Desperate, though -unscientific,. fighting, consisting of ceaseless rifle fire by the Government troops in the liope that tho rebel defenders will exhaust their ammunition and yield, is proceeding. Tlioro aro unconfirmed reports that tho northerners havo captured the city. A Gorman firm at Carlowitz, through, its Hong-Kong manager, who is a director of the Hong-Kong-Sh&ne'tiai Bank, has offered the Governor of Tuonan fhrce millions sterling to construct a railway from Yun-nan-fu (a great commercial centre) eastward to the West River. Th. Carlowitz firm, ivlio represent ICrupps, also recaiyo a twenty-years' monopoly of Government contracts for arms and aniiuuinition and mining and other machinery. Dr. Sim Yat Sen, .the Chinese leader, who is at present in Japan, will shortly proceed to Canada (states a message from Tokio), and will travel thence to England.
