TRAMWAY MATTERS.
VARIOUS POINTS. Various tramway matters were dealt withjat the City Council meeting last night. The age limit in connection with tho issue of sohool tickets was raised from 17 years to 18 years. ■ The stopping-place at John Street is to be removed to a position about 43 feet further south,, as recommended by tho Tramways Board of Management. The request of the deputation of I.yall Bay residents' which waited on- the council, asking that a special tramway service should- be maintained by minimumfare cars to Lyall Bay between the hours of 5 p.m. and G p.m. has not been acceded to.
It was resolved: "That, in accordance with the recommendation of the Tramways Board of Management, the Lyall Bay tramway be along the Esplanade to the Queen's Drive, and a balloon loop formed by a further extension along the Queen's Drive in a. northerly direction to Hua Street, and along Kua route distairce of the proposed extension is 40 chains, seven chains of which will be double track. The work is estimated to cost .£2BOO.
The Tramway Committee reported that they had received a report from tho Tramways Board of Management "show, ing how the tramv.-ays and lighting departments' bank credits benefit the district fund by savin? interest on overdraft to the extent of JJ1250 per annum."
