Up to June SO last 87 dwellings had been erected in Daccyville, the garden suburb created by the New South Wales Government to supply homes lor workers at low rates. In its report on the scheme, the State Housing Board says the rents, which ranged from Us. Gd. to ISs., were from 15 pur cent, to 20 per cent, chcaper than those charged bv private landlords for si|nilar accommodation in suburbs ' situated about the fame distance from the centre of the city.
Each' callage contains, in addition to the ordinary living roims. a laundry, bathroom, pantry, fuel-shed, etc., and verandah"- suitable far 'looping out. Tlu height of a 1! rooms is Ift feet, and the cottages are lighted thronshout b.v_electricity, with eas laid on for cooking purposes. The total cost of erecting the cottages ranped from XSllft to -£GlO p.tcls. In fixins tho rentals, the lloii c Act requires that the following shall ho provided for:—(1) Interest at not less than 4 per cent, per annum on the capital Talue of land and buildings; (I!) cost of insurance, rates, taxes, repairs, and maintenance; (n) part of expense of maliacenient, which is payablo out of the Housing Fund; (4) sinking fund in rejpoct 'of capital cost of tho buildings. „ . The report states that in all eases tho rentals fixed are sufficient to cover tbesa requirements.
