PETONE COURT.

The monthly sitting of the Petone Magistrate's .Court was held yesterday, Dr. A. M'Arthur, S.M., presiding. Mr. R.-11. Mot-hes, J.P., was associated with Mm.

A chargo of assaulting C. W. Drain was' Preferred against' Benjamin Jones. Evience was given with a view to showing that accused, had been in the. act of pulling down a fence when Drain remonstrated with him. The accused struck him twictv-once when he was lying on the ground—with a pair of pincers. A line of 20s. and costs ss. was imposed on acoused, who stated thai) he only acted in salf-defonco.

Law ton Little was charged with assaulting "Ted" Nioholls and using objectionable language. He pleaded guilty oil both counts. It was alleged that accused had been under the influence of liquor at the Pctone Working Men's Club, and ha was asked to leave by the steward. Instead of doing so he assaulted the steward, and alter getting outside used the language . complained of. Oil the first count he.was fined £2, in default 14 days' imprisonment, and on tlie second charge was fined £3, with the option of a further seven days in gaol. P«r damaging a rifle, the property of the Government, Noel M. Cameron., was fined 10s., with costs ZOs. Stanley Biddler, Kobt. J. P. Lucas, and L. C. Smith, territorial defaulters, were fined as follows: —Riddler and Lucas, £2 eacli, and Smith, ss. H. Te Puni, E. To Puni, ajid Bella To Puni wero each made tho subjects of prohibition order's.

Judgment was given for plaintiff by default in tho following raws-.—'\\. Reid v. Amelia Stokca, .£2 9d.. costs 55.; Peton© Borough Council v. W., F. Brittain, costs only ss. C. Harper proceeded' against Benjamin Jones for .£1 10s. for rent and possession of his house. Judgment was given for plaintiff.
