MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

(Before Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M.) At tho Magistrate's Court yesterday, Samuel Charles Minifie was further remanded till August 27 on a charge of attempting to murder his wife, bail was allowed in the sum of .£15(1. Robert Grant was charged with attempting to evade tho maintenance with respect to Jannette Grant. Mr. P. Jackson, who appeared for him, asked for a remand as a reconciliation was likely to bo effected. Mr. O'Leary, who appeared for defendant's wife, concurred, and a remand- was granted. The defendant was, however, ordered to pay the sum of £1 to his wife before Friday.

A chargo of attempting to do grievous lodily liarm to Young Wing On was preferred against William Warne. Accused was remanded until August 27, bail being allowed in the sum of .£25.

John Gosling was remanded on a charge of theft of a bicycle, the property of Frederick Hobbs. The bail was fixed at £10.

Richard Shields was convicted and .ordered to come up for sentence .when called upon on a chargo of being a rogue and a vagabond. He was also made the subject of a prohibition order. For insobriety, Michael Mulholland and Alfred Tattle were each fined 10s. Eight first offenders wore leniently dealt with. Charles Rash was ordered to pay 17s. 6d.,_ as costs for curative treatment.
