SWIMMING.
MEETING OF LOCAL CENTEE. The question of sending a Dominion ,fiw;immiiig teum to Sydney nest year was discussed at some length by tho Wellington Centre of the New Zealand Swimming Association at its last meeting. Mr. J. F. Atkins presided, '.The Canterbury Centre forwarded the following suggestion bearing on tho question '"That the affiliated centres of tho N.Z.A.S.A. agree to select representatives as follow: Auckland, Canterbury, and Wellington, each, three; Hawke's Bay, two; Nelson, Otngo, Wanganui, and South Canterbury, each one. . Also, that each centre pay to the N.Z.A.S.A. the necessary money to cover tho cost of its respective representatives; tho N.Z.A.S.A. to appoint a manager and to pay tho expenses of same; the wTiolo team to travel .together, making Wellington tho port of departure, and to bo directly responsible to the N.Z.A.S.A." The approximate cost of sehding three representatives from Wellington alone was stated to be -G43 16s.
Mr. G. Hill expressed disapproval of the scheme, and moved: "That the Wellington Centre cannot see its way to agree with the proposal." Mr. T. Shields seconded tho motion, and brought forward tho question as 'to whether it was 'not a matter for the governing body to deal with, it being its duty to arrange for tho sending away of a Dominion representatiyeteam. Tlio time was not yet -ripe for tho Wellington Centre to vote such n sum as required. Messrs. L. Blundell and Smith spoko in favour of tliTi motion, which was carried unanimously. The report of the deputation appointed to wait upon tho Reserves Committee of the City Council with a view to the establishment of tepid baths in the city, was to the effect that laUihougli members of the committee were in sympathy with the object, for financial reasons they could not as yet consider the erection of such baths.
Mention was made of the visit of the Hawaiian swimmer, Duke Kahauamoku, to Australia, and it was decided to ask the N.Z.A.S.A. what steps are being taken with a view to asking him to come across to New Zealand.
