LOWER HUTT'S GAS.

PROPOSED NEW AGREEMENT. • The Petone Borough. Council has submitted to the Lower Hutt Borough Council tho following proposal for the extension of tho agreement under which Lower Hutt gets its gas from Petone:— (1) That the price ot gas to Lower Hutt be reduced to 3s. 9cl. per 11)1)0 cubic feat as soon as the gas sold to Lower Hutt, as registered by tho station meter, readies 10,000,000 cubic feet in any ono year, commencing from August . 1 and ending on July 21. (2) That a clause be inserted in tho • agreement providing. for tile Hutt guar- : aLteeing to take at least 0,000,000 cubic feet of gas per annum as per station meter.

(3) The Hutt to be entitled to a portion of each month's output of coke and tar equal to the proportidn it takes of the gas manufactured, such proportion to-bo not less than one-third. Tho price for the same to.be the ordinary sale prico at the time of sale, less 10 per cent.

'(ij The new agreement to be for the period of seven years from date of expiry of present agreement as before. The clauses of the previous offer aro to stand in reference' to tho booster, gasholder, auxiliary plant, 8-inch main, except that tho latter .is to bo put down if possible within six-months from the signing of the new agreement.

Tho agreement, as submitted, was accepted, with tho following proviso: That in tho event of -the consumption of gas falling below 9,000,000 cubic feet, the Hutt Council to pay • 4s. per 1000 cubic feet; on the other hand, should.the consumption rise abovo 10,000,000 cubic feet an allowance of Id. per 1000 cubic feet be credited the Hutt Council. In regard to the purchaso of tar, the Hutt Council to be given a staple price of 3}d. per gallon; tho maximum price of coko to bo XI per ton.
