EMPIRE CADETS.
IMPERIAL TROPHY SHOOTING. The annual competition for Earl Roberts's Imperial trophy, .in which Senior .Cadets throughout' the Empire participate, is to take place at an . early date. The ten cadets to be selected to represent New Zealand will assemble in .Wellington on Tuesday next, and will go into camp somcwhero in tho Hutt Valley for a few days, in order to practice for tho big match. Eadh team entering for the coinnetitiou is to consist of eis'ht lads, and the Now Zealand team will be solccted on the results of next week's practice. The match will take place next Friday week. Major Matheson, of the CoileS'e Cadets, will be in charge of the camp. The cadets will use new short L.E. rifles. The conditions for the matdh are as follow:—(a) Snap shooting, seven rounds at 2CO yards, at targets visible for three seconds, and occulting for ten seconds, (b) Five rounds at 500 yards at targets .visible for GO seconds. (c) Two rounds at 500, 400, 300, and- 200 yards, respectively. Tho fwo rounds will be fired in 15 seconds, after which there will be 15 seconds pause. Then ' from tho'end. i f of 15 seconds' wait, -10 seconds will be allowed for tho advance to the next firing point, when two more rounds will be fired, as before, and so on at tho 300 yards and 200 yards range. The score sheets are required to ba at Homo by October 31 next. Last year the Natal Cadets gained tho highest average of marksmanship among tli3 Defence Cadets of the Empiro.
