August 19, 0.30 a.m.) Melbourne, August 18. , ; 'The trial of William Parker,'a surveyor, on a charge of wounding James Thomas ICnox, acting-town olork of Footscray, with, intent to murder, has commenced. Counsel for the defence pleaded temporary insanity. Parker's brother, wlien 23 years of age, was committed to an asylum, where he had remained ever since. The accused had been greatly worried that day. . The case is proceeding.
James Parker, engineer 'to the Footscray Municipal Council, was arrested on a charge of attempting' to murder James R. Knox, acting-town clerk of Footsoray. The relations between the-'two lad been strained for some ,time, and a stand-up fight hod previously ocouirred. Knox was shot in four places. Ivnox was formerly Assistant engineer -under Patker.
