STREET "REFUGES."
„FROM LONDON'S TRAFFIC. Br Telegraph—Pr«E» 'Association—Oonyrieht ("Times"—Sydney "Sun" Special Cables.) , London, August 15. The Select Parliamentary Committee on the London traffic problem has reported in favour of simplification of control. 'The report states that tho journeys undertaken by passengers in Greater London total two thousand million yearly. It reoommendis that tho solo control be vested in a special traffic branch of tho Board of Trade,- the County Council having power to prescribe tho routes- and time-tables • and the number of publio vehicles allowed on the streets, subject to confirmation by the Traffic Board. The report recommends special spied limits for motor traffic where the conditions are specially daugerous; also more refuges on tho streets and closer control by the police.
The omnibus companies strongly oppose tho recommendations.
