CARTERTON NOTES.
Tho Carterton Tent of Rechabites celebrated their thirtieth anniversary with a banquet on Thursday evening, when there was a large attendance. Representatives from tho kindred-societies were also present, and Bro. T. Fathers, district secretary of tho Wellington Central District, presided. A toast list as follows was crao through:—"The King/' chairman; lho Mayor and Borough. Council/' C. Dounard, responded to by Mr. F. Feist (Mayor); "Kindred Societies, Bro. W. Whyte, Messrs. H. Davis (Foresters), H. Barlow (Druids), S. Bairstov (Oddfellows), Bro. Minifie (Masterton Rcchabites); New Zealand Central District/' Bro. -Tl\. Partridge, Bro. T. Fathers; "Tho Ladies, Bro. W. Stevens, Mrs. T. F. Rathbone; "Tho Sick and Distressed Brethren, Bro. ,T. Freddy. During the proceedings songs were contributed by Messrs. E. Armstrong, S. Whyte, Messrs. H. Bick, and J. Predtly, and Mr. G. A. Fairbrother amused the audience with a recitation. Miss King presided at 'the piano. ■ , Mr. J. Gregan has disposed of his interest in liis farm at Clareville to Mr. Hurly. Mr. Gregan will probably take up land in tho Waikato. _ The Carterton Branch of _ the Wairarapa Egg Circle on Friday dispatched 250 dozen eggs to Wellington.
Messrs. A. L. Wilson and Co. insert particulars of a big sale of furniture which they are holding. The sale, it is stated, is one of the most important held in Wellington for years. Tlie sale will take place on August 21 and 22, commencing each day at 10.30 a.m., at tho residence of Mr. Hermann Lewis, "Cincinatfci," Main Road to Taita, Lower Hutt, and will be under bill of sales, without reservo. Included in the catalogue is a Beclistein drawing-room and concert grand piano, which cost 200 guineas; 6 Axminster carpets, a fine collection of chippendale furniture; combination billiard and dining table; Japanese, Italian, and French! bronzes, royal satsuma_ and cloisanne ware; also a fine collection of water-colours and oils by leading English and. New Zealand artists. Catalogues will bo posted to any address. Buses will meet all trains and the furniture will Ijo on view this afternoon, Tuesday, and Wednesday next, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
