Speaking in the Federal House, Mr. Fisher (Leader of the Opposition) warmly attacked the Government's, proposals, which ho described as a retrogressive, time-marking policy. lie concluded by moving an amendment to the Address-in-Reply, regretting that tho Government s proposals aimed at destroying the beneficial character of social and industrial laws, indicated no intention of taking steps to reduce tho high cost of living, and failed to recognise the urgency of the tariff question. On the motion of Mr. Cook (the Prime Minister) the debate—and the House—was adjourned. The Senate, in view of Mr. Fisher's amendment, has adjourned till August 27.
