The trail included' sod walls, brush fences, ditches, and one or two small wiro fenoes. Tho day was damp and fairly cold. Tlrreo teams entered—Wellington, Otago, and Southland, though the latter team was only raised at tho last minnte. The result pro-red a handsome win for Otago, whoso five men got home first, , headed-by. J.> Beatson, >:who did the'disfence! iin "SOniinil'iSseol Only four of the Wellington men finished, one (Hutton) suffering-from chest trouble, and being forced to retire. No Southland' men finished. '. The Wellington men led at the start, but, half-way through, Otago started to go to tho lead,' and Southland had practically all ' retired. Beatson.'finally ran in 50 yards ahead, his men following him at about the same interval. Results:—' ■ Teams' Championship.—Otago (J. Beatton 1, D. B. Jack 2, G. A. M'Knig'ht 3, D. E. Thompson 4), 10 points, 1; Wellington (J. P. Byrne 6, E. Ballantyno 8, C. Murray 9, F. Hodson 10), 33 points, 2.
