MEAT & AMERICAN MART.
PRESENT LOCAL POSITION. A cablegram from Syduoy published on Saturday stated that the whole of the Willoehra's refrigerating spaco for her first trip to Sim Erancfeeo had been engaged for the carriage of Australian meat. Tlio message was brought.under tho 110tioo of representatives of tho local meat companies, in viiew of the fact that tho steamer )9 to malio Wellington heir U'l'll mini port. The representatives.of both companies viewed tho statement with equanimity, in view of this being the dead cud of the season in New Zealand. They pointed out' that the Australian hilling'season was a good bit earlier tliau ouirs, and it would probably bo freshly frozen mutton that would bo shipped by tho Willochra. In any case, nothing could bo done at this timo of tho year. If meat WB ro shipped it would bo moat that had been iu cold storo for some time. Besides this, the meat regulations at San Francisco demanded that every quarter of a carcass rihall be stamped, and to do that with'meat now in cold store, would mean unbagging tho carcasses. Later on, no doubt, the American meat trado might claim" tho attention of local companies, but at this time of tlio year it would (n Australian meat that would go forward.
