REAL ASSAULT OR JOKE?
WAVERLBY PRESSMAN'S CASE. (By Telegraph.—Sjieciftl Correspondent.) Wanganui, August 9. The alleged assault aiul robbery by two men on Cyril M'Kay (a pressman),' who, it was reported, had been bound and gagged at Waverley on Wednesday night, Iras been investigated by Detectivo Siddclls. Tho story of robbery is discounted, aud it now appears that tlio whole affair was meant as a joke, but was earned a bit "too far. 'Die police are determined to bring tlio perpetrators of the assault to justice if possible, and Detectivo Siddclls is still, pursuing inquiries at Waverley. The shot supposed to have been fired from a revolver in order to frighten off a young man who was going to M'Kny's assistanco is now stated to have teen only the explosion of a craclter.
