LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
CHRISTIAN SCIENCE TREATMENT. Sir,—lll your paper of August 5 a dispatch from London appears announcing the death of a child lroin diphtheria, "from tho result of Clirisliau Sciem» treatment." To Christian Scientists this is clearly an impossibility, but for tho bomelit of those who may not bo bo well informed, on tho eubjcct of Christina Beionoo may I make tho following briof remarks P When doatli .occurs under Christian Soienco trea, tment, it is not "tho rcaolt from such treatment," but a lack of sufficdont understanding of that Scieiico ("aoouirato knowledge of" God), which is curing liundrods of thousands of human beings of all manner of diseases after al other moans fail. Fair-minded people aro also beginning to roooguiso the fact that when ono such doath ocoure, to tho thousands which oco-ir daily ur.dor othar forms of treatment, tho press at liouio and abroad never fail to moke full monition. of tho fact, and to condemn. liowevor, Christian Scionco needs no dofence, as it is able to stand on its own merits, and it has 6tood tho test of t'ho severest oriticism and misropiescntatdoiia during the past forty years.. It is customary among Christiaa Scientists when thceo is tho slijfhtat reason to think that thero is any contagious disease developing in their families, to secure a medical verdict and to report same to tho health authorities, carefully following all. quarantine regulations, but to rely on God for tho healing,- knowing as they do that His love and wisdom never faileth, and when there seems to be failure, it is, in their understanding of, and confidence in, Him whom'to know aright is "life eternal."—l am, cto., ALICE K. METZ, C. S. Committoo on Publication. Wellington, August 7, 1913. THE MANAGEMENT OF "SOCCER." Sir,—Having had my attention drawn to tho letter im Saturday's issue, written by tho secretary of tho Corinthians F.C. (R, A. Simpson), allow mo to thank him for bakinsr a share in oipo6ing tho tactics of tho W.ff.A. I shall ba glad to read from him in tho very noar futuxo a full and honest report as to how the eeiltences, etc., were passed, and will ho bo good enough to answer tho following questions:— 1. Has ho received any information from the W.F.A. as'to what is tho ofl'cnco supposed to have been committed by myself and other players? 2. Did he receive any requests to advisa players ooncenied to attend tho W.F.A. before sentence was passed? 3. Is he satisfied with tho W.F.A, condemning players unheard ? . 4. Why has ho kept silent instead of writing 'through your paper re this matter, well knowing ho is the secretary ? Trusting to hear from him, and thanking you tor your laud iu6ortion,—l am, ctc " " W.
