NOTES AND COMMENTS.
IBT Qlencoi.] Roosevelt has again gono wrong, and will not bo a starter at Ricearton next I week. The trouble is not considered to bo serious, and liis owner liopes to have him in work again shortly. The V.A.T.C. meeting (embracing the Australian. Steeplechase) will be concluded ■ at jFlemington to-day. full ship was I'ho order of things : when the "Waliine hauled in her lines and leli for Lytteiton last evening. Trippers for the Grand National meeting hgurcd largely on the passenger list, J. 11. Prosser (at present in hospital) was advised from fciccarton . yesterday that iireworks had "gone sore," and would not be fit to race in the' Grand National Steeplechase. The pen will probably bo put through his name for ail engagements. It-turns out that Lady do Yore went wrong after racing at Awapuni, and could not be taken south for tho Grand - National meeting. The other hunter from Paimerston North, Major Webb, wont south by the Waihine last evening, in charge of G. Caddy. The aimual football match between the North and South Island jockeys will tako place at Lancaster Park to-day. The following will represent the North Island-—Pull-back, A. 'i'utchen, P. Plynn, and J, Lyford. j Immediately after the Grand National Meeting, 11. Eickey will leave for Sydney with Beacon, Whakaweira, Chief Marshal, and The Rover. The quartet will probably do well on the other side, as the jumpers on that side of "the p<jnd" leave a great deal to bo desired. St. Gate lias left A. Hall's stables, and is now trained by J. l'cachcy at Wanganui. I.ord Koult—probably the oldest descendant of Soult in training in the Dominion —has again broken down, and will be finally pensioned off.
It is now definitely announced that Kcw has been sold to Mr. Eric l'iddiford. It is not known whether both "Kilrain and Ivciv will run in the AY inter Cup, but the probabilities are that they will. The Raugitikci Racing Club has decided to hold its annual meeting on March 25 and 2G. Captain .Tack and Ilunakaha arrived from Auckland yesterday, and went South in charge of E. J. Rae. As Vice-Admiral has not made the final payment for the Winter Cup, Crown Pearl will now be at the top of the handicap. Kauroa's. fall while schooling recently was apparently serious enough to warrant his giving way to his stable companion Glemnore in the Grand National Steeplechase. Generally, the final payments leave the fields much as was expected they would. The defections were anticipated' in almost every instance.
